History
Western Louiseville Fiberboard Inc. (WLF)
The plant located in Calgary, Alberta (Canada) was built in the
early 60s and started his operation in 1963 on a reduce schedule,
and went to full production in 1965. The Calgary plant was, until
October 2010, manufacturing fiberboard panels for the construction
industry, and mainly supplying wood fibre roofing materials to the
roofing industry and expansion joint panels throughout Canada and
the Western United States.
Over the years of operation, as technology improved, the plant
made changes to make the product output better, which helped to
enhance the quality of the fibreboard roofing product line.
The Calgary plant now manufactures a variety of building
material panels: sheathing, roof insulation, acoustic panels,
expansion joint panels and specialty products for various
sectors. These products are mainly sold in the Western part
of Canada and in United States.
The annual capacity of the WLF mill is 100 million square
feet. The Calgary Fiberboard mill has built over the years a
solid reputation and is committed to become a leader in fiber
products and customer service quality as well as environmental
friendliness. The WLF mill operates with a completely closed
(zero effluent) water system resulting in an efficient and
environmentally friendly mill.
Western Louiseville Fiberboard Inc. is committed to ensuring the
viable future of the fiberboard mill. Its fiberboard panels
are made with 100% recycled cellulosic fibres (wood residues, old
cardboards and papers). They are stable, lightweight and easy
to install - with recovery, recycling and environmental protection
being core values.
On October 1, 2010, Mrs. Rina P. McGuire took over the Calgary
Fiberboard mill and is dedicated and committed to improve the
quality and to develop new products in order to ensure a well
future for the mill and its employees.
History of wood fibre
Did you know that the wood fibre products are natural and
ecological products that exist since the early 1900s?
During the last century, the products have evolved considerably
in the production of panels and their applications.
Fiberboard panels are among the most environmentally friendly
insulation, soundproofing, lightweight and easy to apply offering
excellent quality-to-price ratio. They fit perfectly in the pursuit
of sustainable development and healthy and environmentally friendly
construction.
The panels are made from recycled wood fiber giving many lives
to our natural resources, that is to say our forests. The same wood
fiber can be recycled up to seven times.
1000 kg of recycled wood, cardboard or paper is the equivalent
of 12 to 17 trees.
WLF recycles about 25,000 tons of wood per year, equivalent to
nearly 85 million square feet of panels for construction sector and
thereby save more than 300,000 trees each year. If one calculates
that WLF has existed for over 30 years, it has saved more than 9
million trees!
The production of fiberboard panels contributes to the economy in a
significant way as it keeps jobs and provide consumers with
innovative and healthy products.
